List Of Popes From St. Peter To St. Francis

The Catholic Church is the only Church of the world that can trace their root to Peter (originally named “Simon”). Jesus called Simon as “petros”, Greek word for “rock” because He made him the foundation of His Church. Jesus assured Peter that the gates of hell cannot overcome this Church. Peter was one of the disciples of Jesus whom He personally selected to take care of His flock;

[Matthew 16:18] And I say to thee: That thou art Peter; and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.

[John 21:16] Jesus asked him again, a second time, “Simon, son of John, do you love me?” Peter answered him, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.” Jesus told him, “Take care of my sheep”
